Sweet Potatoes

I often find that people approach me on the street and ask, "Aren't you that awesome designer for Blueprint Interactive?" or "Hey, didn't I see you in People magazine's 'Sexiest Men' issue this year?" While it's nice to get recognized for my more common work, I also like to do work in the kitchen, and receive compliments on my cooking, as well.

Anyways, Thanksgiving is just around the corner, which means that if you're the one that's in charge of the cooking for your Turkey Day get-together, it's probably going to serve you up an extra helping of stress for your troubles. Whether you're taking care of all of the preparations for your guests, or simply bringing a side dish along as a visitor, it's always nice to have a go-to that's both delicious and easy to make.

One of my favorite Thanksgiving (and pretty much all other times) dishes is a tasty sweet potato recipe that I've been experimenting with over the past few years, and I believe it very well may be perfect. The following recipe yields a medium-sized dish, feel free to alter the preparation for your need.

For the 3rd straight year, Emily and her friends gathered this past weekend to celebrate not Canadian Thanksgiving, not American Thanksgiving -- and certainly not Halloween -- but Fakesgiving. This year, our annual tradition of brining, baking, feasting and frolicking scored itself a hashtag (#Fakesgiving), a Foursquare check-in, and now, a blog post. How New Media of us.

After the jump, a photo recap.

Fast-Food BBQ Throwdown — Or, How I Justified Eating Two Lunches in One Day

Sandwich Battle

Barbeque is one of my favorite things to eat, and for someone who grew up in Iowa, far from any of America’s BBQ hotspots, I’ve still had the privilege of stuffing myself at some killer BBQ joints in Texas, Kansas City, Memphis, Chicago, and North Carolina through my travels. Not to mention all of the BBQ I’ve tasted at random dives in Iowa, Hawaii, New York, and my adopted home of the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia). Not trying to brag or anything, but I’m kind of a big deal (read that sentence in this voice) when it comes to BBQ.

To my surprise, fast-food sandwich juggernaut Subway recently unveiled the latest addition to its menu in the form of the “BBQ Pulled Pork” sub. BBQ pulled pork at Subway? I wasn’t buying it (figuratively, not literally…I try any and all BBQ once). Even though I do enjoy something easy when I’m feeling cheap and lazy (that’s what she said?) for lunch, I still had doubts that Subway could pull this one off.

Blueprint Bakes: Banana Bread

blueprint bakes, Emily, food, recipes      0 comments    Posted on July 12, 2011 by Emily

There is one thing that we here at Blueprint Interactive talk about almost as much as the interwebs, and that is food -- restaurants, burritos, baking projects -- we like to eat. So today we've decided to lift the curtain on one of the best kept secrets this side of the Mississippi: what makes Emily's banana bread so moist...

Better Mexican Rice Than Anything on the East Coast

food, recipes      0 comments    Posted on June 10, 2011 by Cameron

I can admit it -- I'm a snob when it comes to Mexican food. Anyone from California is. People from other states our West try to be too, but I've yet to see proof that they have as much a right. Either way, Mexican food out here is atrocious. I've stopped going to most places for the food (nothing wrong with a frozen margarita or 3 on a day), because, well, I can do it better myself.
